How the pattern is built

Your photo becomes structured garment data. Pattern engines build the pattern.

The design you confirm is translated into structured garment data, then into real drafting geometry. Fit rules, construction logic and relationships between pieces are checked before the result is allowed to be treated as a pattern.

Geometry
Pattern geometry, not graphics
Drafting operations work on actual pattern geometry — curves, landmarks, darts, seam lines and cutting outlines — rather than drawing a pattern-shaped image.
Fit data
Fit is an explicit drafting basis
Standard sizing or Personal Fit becomes a defined fit basis. Body measurements and garment ease are handled separately so the pattern is not just scaled up or down.
Construction
Design features become drafting operations
Supported necklines, sleeves, darts, openings, waist treatments and other details map to governed engine capabilities such as curve regeneration, landmark movement, dart rotation and slash-and-spread.
Relationships
Pieces have to work together
Required pieces must exist and the construction must reconcile. The engine can validate seam relationships, sleeve and armhole compatibility, grainline preservation and other structural requirements before export.
Pattern Gate

If a required feature, drafting operation or construction piece cannot be proven in the generated geometry, NotchGrain blocks the output from being labelled a pattern.

Good to know.

Do you sell outside the UK?

Yes. NotchGrain is available worldwide. Your pattern is a digital download, so there is nothing to ship — choose UK, US/Canada or EU size labels, work in centimetres or inches, and print on A4, US Letter or A0.

Can I work in inches?

Yes. Choose centimetres or inches for your measurements, and your pattern sheets carry both a 10 cm and a 4 in calibration reference so you can confirm it printed at 100%.

Can I use my own measurements?

Yes. Choose Personal Fit and enter the measurements required for your garment.

Can I just choose a size?

Yes. Choose a standard size shown as UK, US/Canada or EU. Size labels differ between brands, so if you would rather not rely on a label, enter your measurements instead.

Is seam allowance included?

It can be. Choose Included or Not Included before generating your pattern.

What files do I get?

A tiled PDF for home printing on A4 or US Letter, and an A0 sheet for large-format printing. Everything prints at 100% with a printed calibration reference.

What if NotchGrain can't make my exact design?

We'll tell you before you pay. For some unsupported details we can show you a supported alternative for your approval.

Do I still need to make a toile or muslin?

Your personalised pattern is adjusted to the measurements you provide. For close-fitting garments or valuable fabric, we still recommend making a toile first.

How much does it cost?

$9.99 USD for one garment and $14.99 USD for a two-piece set. We sell worldwide and charge in US dollars. Uploading and design checking are free.
